Research Report on Declining Chow Chow yield released by Agriculture Minister

News  |  August 29, 2025

A research report on the declining yield of Chow Chow (Iskut), prepared by the Mission Foundation Movement, was released by Pu PC Vanlalruata, Minister of Agriculture at his office, MINCEO.

The Minister expressed appreciation, saying it was commendable to have such a research report on Iskut. He pointed out that this study is only a beginning, and the government will continue consultations with farmers to develop plans for improvement. He also mentioned that KVK Selesih will continue to provide useful services for farmers.

The study on the causes of declining Chow Chow cultivation in Durtlang, Sihphir, and Lungdai was carried out under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs’ TRI scheme, with funding of ₹25 lakhs channelled through the Department of Social Welfare. The project was implemented for one year, informed Lalramchuanzela, Executive Director, MFM.

Project Coordinator HL Lalrinawma presented the report. He stated that Durtlang, Sihphir, and Lungdai areas used to produce Chow Chow in large quantities. However, over the past 10 years, cultivation has steadily declined, and the trend appears to be continuing. The Project Coordinator also presented several recommendations for necessary interventions.
