World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day was commemorated with a special event held at the Laithangpuii College of Pharmacy Auditorium. The program was jointly organized by the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities – Regional Training Centre, Aizawl, Mizoram, and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
As part of the event, Dr Muhammed Azzarudin, Head of department, Physiotherapy, RIPANS, served as the resource person and delivered a lecture on the characteristics of sclerosis. The program was organized with the objective of increasing public awareness about Multiple Sclerosis—a long-term neurological disorder that impacts the central nervous system—and to inform attendees about its symptoms, associated challenges, and available treatment methods.
According to the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation, over 2.3 million people worldwide are affected by Multiple Sclerosis. In recognition of this, the Federation has designated May 30th as World Multiple Sclerosis Day to raise global awareness about the condition.
