News | November 06, 2025
Mrs. Lalrinpuii, Minister of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Department, today launched the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Solve Project at her office chamber in MINECO, Khatla. The project is a joint initiative of Aparajita and J-PAL South Asia, and will be implemented in Mizoram by the Mission Foundation Movement (MFM).
The Minister, highlighting the alarming rise in violence against women in Mizoram, stated that during 2022–2023, a total of 3,094 cases were reported through the Women Helpline, which has now risen sharply to 12,750 cases as of February 2025. She emphasised that addressing GBV is of utmost importance, as empowering women strengthens families and, in turn, uplifts entire communities.
She further noted that the GBV Solve Project will not only tackle issues surrounding gender-based violence but will also include extensive awareness and education programmes for both boys and girls, along with skill training initiatives to help women gain economic independence.
Mrs. Zoramthangi Chhangte, Director of the Women and Child Development Department, expressed her gratitude for the collaboration, stating that her department was pleased to work hand in hand with the Mission Foundation Movement to combat gender-based violence and uplift the status of women.
Mr. Lalramchuanzela, Executive Director of the Mission Foundation Movement, thanked the Government for its continued support and expressed his organisation’s strong commitment to working for the well-being and empowerment of Mizo women through this project.
Representatives from Aparajita and J-PAL South Asia shared that J-PAL is a research organisation dedicated to promoting evidence-based policymaking through rigorous evaluation methods. They explained that the GBV Solve Project is one of their key global initiatives aimed at addressing gender-based violence. After two years of extensive study and preparation, the project is now being launched.
Out of 470 project proposals received across India, after thorough screening and assessment, six organisations were selected to implement the GBV Solve Project — one of which is Mission Foundation Movement (MFM). In Mizoram, MFM will carry out the project in collaboration with the Women and Child Development Department, focusing on awareness, community engagement, and support services for survivors of gender-based violence in Aizawl District.
At the launch event, officials from the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development — Mrs. Lalzarmawii (Commissioner & Secretary), Mr. Lalnunhlua (Additional Secretary), Mrs. Zonunthari (Joint Secretary) — were present, along with representatives from MHIP led by Prof. Irene Lalruatkimi, and members of the Mission Foundation Movement.
